Pedlar asks pedlars.info what can I do?
Hi
Like lots of others who are pedlars, I have also had other business and I also operate stalls and stands at events, I think I can claim pedlary as part of my heritage, being at least 5th generation of my family to have made my own living in this way .
My gt grandfather being listed on the old census as an hawker, however although I have a fair education I’m not a lawyer, so what does all this mean and what should I best do to preserve the rights of pedlars, I have contacted my MP but I get the feeling is replies are polite and I just end up with a letter from BIS.
Please let me know.

Thanks for responding to our recent pedlars alert.
Your endorsement of what we are doing on your behalf is sufficient for the purposes of a proposed government meeting.
We find that MP’s letters to constituents are drafted by a BIS Communications Unit and so the MP has no engagement with the issues as you may hope… hence his signature on somebody’s polite letter.
You can’t give up as he is your parliamentary representative… your voice of concern in parliament.
Please forward this email to him with a covering note urging him to at least read one of the 15 causes of pedlars concerns.
Do ask for his support to stop this BIS attempt to cover-up its own PSRA 2009 legislative negligence by not only making chair-menders and handicraft persons potential victims of local authority enforcement officers but the BIS current policy is to bring the same harm to all pedlars through repeal of the perfectly good national Pedlars Act.
Pedlars are reporting to pedlars.info that in all 15 local authority jurisdictions where similar private Acts based on the same policy have crept in since 1999 [handing powers of abuse to hired enforcement] genuine pedlars are harassed out of town or have goods seized and made criminal [a CRB record for life].
The minister’s spin that BIS national policy formulation will assist pedlars is a vulgar lie.
The minister refuses to engage with pedlars Third Option proposals… why?… because it represents a valid solution that is not supported by more powerful lobby groups that have sought to suppress free market opportunity and competition.
BIS is facing a crisis of Principle that does not fit well in a liberal democracy.
Please let others know how to assist by sending this communication to their respective MP’s.
